Here is one of Joe's many Telecaster's. When you hear a guitar like this, You'll know why no other Guitar Sounds like a Tele. This one has an Alder Body, a 1 Piece Maple "C" neck with Medium-Jumbo frets, 3 way switching, and Texas special Tele pickups. The neck pickup's metal cover is grounded to a push/pull pot in the tone position that when pulled, gives this Tele 3 new sounds in the "out of phase" category making this tele have a total of 6 sounds now! Joe Completely Re-Wired it with vintage cloth wire and U.S.A. CTS pots. Add a sharp white-pearl pickguard along with a "Vintage white" finish then smile.
Here is one of Joe's many custom Stratocaster's. You wont find another like this one anywhere! For starters, This one has a Basswood body specifically chosen for it's darker tone. Strat's typically are alder or ash. There also isn't any finish with the exception of a sealer applied. This body resonates beyond belief! For the electronics, Joe selected 3 GFS alnico II Fat Pat 4-conductor PAF zebra humbuckers. Then wired them to a 5-way USA switch with a single 500k push/pull pot with a .001uf cap in the volume position that when pulled puts the pickups in single coil mode giving this guitar unlimited combinations. The .001uf cap retains the brightness when the volume is lowered. He didn't stop there. The tone control for the 1st tone works just like a regular Fender strat, operating when the switch is in position 1 or 2, but the pot value is a warmer 250k with it's own separate .047 capacitor. It really growls! For the 2nd tone, it's wired with it's own .022 capacitor and the pot is also a 250k. However, it's wired to work when the switch is in position 4 and 5 unlike typical strats that don't utilize the 2nd tone for the bridge pickup alone. On this strat the middle pickup is wired "wide open" instead of the bridge. This strat can sound like a les Paul one minute and a Tele the next. Pure Genius!
This is a TurserJT-34 Hollow-body Electric. Well it was...This guitar is ready to Boogie! Joe used this guitar for much of the rhythm & Lead Guitar tracks on his CD "Livin' & Dyin". He also uses this guitar Live quite often. This guitar has been Custom Modified beyond belief!! For starters, He found 2 Original Epiphone PAF Humbuckers from a 1970 EPI, Then converted them to 4 conductor wiring, then wired them like one of Jimmy Page's Les Paul's using 4 Push/Pull Pots and a 3-way switch, giving a multitude of sounds. Single coil, humbucker, out of phase for all combinations, along with parallel switching. The only hollowbody that sounds like a Telecaster! It also has an Arched Top and Back, and Medium-Jumbo Frets. The Vintage Tobacco finish on this guitar is stunning! Here's a true story about this guitars tone.. On one particular night, a drink kept vibrating off the table, there were 3 drinks spilled in a row, within minutes apart, just caused by the vibrating tone in the room! Joe thought it was either that, or John Lee Hooker's Spirit. Click to hear a sample.
This is Joe's JT-50 Custom "SG" from Jay Turser. It's got a beautiful see through Ivory White finish, with all Gold Hardware. Joe Custom Wired it with Vintage Cloth Wire and U.S.A. CTS Pots. For the Pickups, He Re-wired A Gibson 490r in the neck position to 4 conductor wire, then did the same thing to the Gibson 57 Classic Plus in the bridge position, then added a Push/Pull Pot to the 490r's tone position which puts the 2 pickups out of phase but in series. The bound, maple set neck with Rosewood fretboard also has custom Pearl/Abalone inlays that now go all the way up the neck. (Tursers usually stop at the 17th). Joe played this guitar for many of the solo's on his cd "3", and usually brings it to the show. Click to hear a sample.
This is Joe's 1983 Vanguard Imperial Flying V. This guitar was one of the finest guitars that the Kramer company ever made. It was built in Neptune, New Jersey U.S.A. He purchased it new, and has since COMPLETELY overhauled it. For starters, Joe stripped the polyurethane finish, then re-finished it in lacquer with the Gibson-like Heritage Cherry that you now see. In addition, he stripped the original finish off the maple neck as well, then actually shaved the back and sides to custom fit his own hand, then he re-fretted it with the biggest jumbo frets he could find. He then applied a satin finish to it so he could dig-in better. The pick-ups are now Gibson 496R/498T Zebra coils, custom wired. There are now 2 push/pull pots that can tap all 4 coils in series or parallel. Joe kept the original Floyd Rose tremolo since this was the 1st year for it on a U.S.A. Kramer. This thing is sick, and it took almost 2 years to complete. Click to hear a sample.
This is another rare guitar that Joe brings to the show. A near mint 1964 Danelectro Model 3021 in Limo Black. This guitar was completely original when Joe bought it. However Joe's modification's were that he upgraded the Danelectro bridge with the better modern Danelectro bridge with the individual steel saddle adjusters, and the original "seal" pickguard has been changed with a repro. Also to make it more stage friendly, he added a 21st fret dot to the rosewood neck along with side dots that go all the way up and not just stopping at the 12th fret. When asked why he would alter a vintage instrument this way, Joe said "I felt the guitar should've been built this way, so I simply finished the process." This guitar is also a hollowbody instrument that has a sound like no other. Click to hear a sample.
This is a revamped Fender Telecoustic. These aren't the top of the line for typical acoustics, but Joe used his expertise to make this one a bit better. 1st he pulled the neck and reinforced the neck pocket with American black walnut to increase the sustain, then the frets were replaced with jumbo's. Next a bone compensated bridge saddle was added so the intonation is perfect now. These guitars are becoming more and more popular because of their versatility on stage and in the studio. Joe used this guitar on some of the acoustic work on "Livin' & Dyin", and used it some on "The Real Deal". This guitar has a Solid Spruce Top, a Telecaster Maple neck with a Rosewood Fretboard, along with a Fishman pick-up under the bridge saddle. The Finish is Candy Apple Red and it looks awesome. For strings, Joe uses a custom string gauge of .011, .015, .022(unwrapped), .028, .038, .048 on this guitar. Mainly because he likes to shred on his acoustics if possible without having to glue his fingers back together from using regular acoustic strings. It doesn't always help...

Here is a customized Acoustic/Electric Dobro Resonator Guitar. Real Bluesmen know that this is THE guitar for playing the Delta Blues! If you wanna hear Joe wail on some slide, go see one of his acoustic shows. In fact, this was the main guitar used on his"The Real Deal" CD. It's got a Piezo under-saddle bridge pickup, along with a Gibson Deluxe Mini Humbucker in the Neck position. Joe also installed separate volume and tone controls that have different value pots and caps for each pickup so the sound can be customized for nearly any situation. Mahogany neck, back, and sides with a flamed maple top finished with a Tobacco-Burst Finish Looks as good as it sounds too! Click to hear a sample. (This sample is the full length version of "Walkin' Blues".)
For that Big Bass Sound, Joe uses his own Hand-made versions of the Fender P-Bass or Jazz Bass. This P-Bass has a Full scale neck with Jumbo Frets, and a Vintage Fender Split-Single-Coil Pick-up. Joe Prefers using Medium Heavy Strings.
